On April 16th I was honored to receive the Damon Runyon Award from the Press club. It was also a great honor to be roasted… from what I hear.
The award dinner/roast was the same day my baby boy was born.

(Yes, we’d all been up for 24 hours straight – that’s why we’re not looking at the right camera. haha!)
So as you can imagine, I couldn’t make it to the awards dinner/roast, which is also a scholarship fundraiser. My dad, mom and sister, Kathryn, made it and my dad accepted the award for me.
I just got the pictures emailed to me tonight. Here’s my dad. I guess they let him say something. He didn’t tell me about this.

He did tell me Rob Quirk’s roast of me was darn funny. Thanks Rob!
Here’s my dad, Rob and James Amos, press club president handing my award to my dad.

Also, in the spirit of roasting, and Damon Runyon humor, I agreed to videotape a small parody of my story on the county commissioners from last summer.
In the parody, which is supposed to be funny, I’m the one videotaped not working. The press club got a city council member, the sheriff and 2 of the commissioners to go along with it. They shot my stuff 1 day and the rest of them at some other point. I didn’t know how it was going to be put together, just that it was all for good fun and to help raise money for a good cause. I guess if you can’t laugh at yourself you’re a pretty miserable person. At least that’s what my wife tells me. Parody/self-roasting video.
