Warning! Gestational diabetes happens, it’s happening to us

So I wrote a post a while ago about the doctor warning Nicole to avoid pasta and juice.  He was concerned about a couple things, including the risk of gestational diabetes.

Well, Nicole has gestational diabetes.  The good news is that it only lasts through the pregnancy and as long as we’re careful the baby should be fine.

We both wanted to bring some awareness to both men and women about gestational diabetes.  The main thing we have to do now is manage her blood sugar, which means she takes blood sugar tests twice a day and has a strict diet set by a dietician and the doctor.

An alert reader commented on a previous post of mine, warning us to be careful about eating too much pasta and juice.  I wanted to thank the reader, but accidentally deleted that comment and several others while I was deleting spam.  Anyway, thank you for the warning, it helped us get a jump on learning exactly what gestational diabetes is.

Some risk factors for gestational diabetes include:

  • African or Hispanic ancestry
  • Being older than 25 when pregnant
  • Family history of diabetes
  • Giving birth to a previous baby that weighed more than 9 pounds
  • Unexplained miscarriage or death of a newborn

KOAA News Desk Torn Apart

It was a melancholy mood earlier today as we said goodbye to the set at the KOAA studios.   Jordan even teared up a little when he saw the sports desk in the dumpster outside.

I think I’ll miss the platform covered in blue shag carpet the most.  Especially that creak everytime you stepped on it to walk over to the news desk.  The more weight I gained, the more it creaked.  I’m going to miss that dance the 2 of us did… step, step, creak… step, step creak.  I hope the new set and I will have just as much fun.

Here are a few pictures on day 1 of the deconstruction.

That’s the top of the old desk. You can’t see it, but there’s years of abc gum on the other side of it.

Goodbye old friend.
